Misfire during search op, girl hurt

Pattan: An Army soldier ‘accidentally’ misfired his gun at a little girl during a search operation, resulting in her injury in North Kashmir’s Pattan town on Sunday night.

Family sources said that on Sunday night an Army party from 29 RR cordoned off Wailoo Pattan area after they received inputs about the presence of militants in the village.

“The Army personnel entered into my house and suddenly my class 3rd daughter Insha Habib received a bullet injury after a soldier misfired his gun. The army men immediately rushed her to 92 Base Army hospital in Badamibagh Srinagar,” Habibullah Sheikh said.

The protesting family Monday staged a protest against the incident and while conceding to their demand police registered an FIR vide number 152/2015 under 325 against the accused Army soldier.

When contacted, an Army official said that it was an accidental fire. “It was an unfortunate incident. The bullet first hit the soldier and after rebounding from the wall it hit the little girl. Both the soldier and the little girl are being treated in the hospital and they both are stable,” he said. (CNS)
