Hajj flight grounded at IGI airport, passengers aghast

SRINAGAR: The second Hajj flight that took off from Srinagar airport Thursday afternoon around 2:45 pm is reportedly “grounded” at New Delhi’s Indira Ghandhi International airport with Hajjis alleging “creating problems for them”.

A passenger, who is on-board an Indian Airlines flight said that have “not been given any reason for inordinate delay”.

“We landed at New Delhi airport around 4PM and since then, we are stuck in the aircraft,” a passenger on way to Saudi Arabia for annual Hajj pilgrimage said. “No reason has been assigned; we are not even allowed to use washrooms,” he added.

“There is a space problem at Madeenah Munawarah airport which is why the flight was grounded, Minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri said. “I spoke to passengers and they are all right.”

He, however, said the passengers can’t be allowed to leave the aircraft. “The plane is scheduled to leave at 7 PM.”
