Why Don’t These People Retire?

A teacher who used to teach me in the class 5th and retired in 2010 is still working in a private school after his superannuation. The teacher should have retired long back as me being his student have turned old. Not only myself, my elder brother also his student, retired in 2007. The bother is elder to me by 11 years.  Some days back I spotted the same teacher while I was on way to my home and I stopped my car and asked the teacher to board the car and asked him, if he could recognize me. The teacher said yes ‘I can tell your name also’.

I was in for a shock when I came to know that the respected teacher has not yet retired from his job.

“I am currently working in a private school in Srinagar”, he said when I enquired from him about his post retirement engagement. The man got infuriated after I told him that I am also turning old now and you still say that you retired just six years back and that my elder brother who was once his student retired in 2007. When I dropped him at his residence, he instead of giving any compliment for the lift asked me to change my etiquettes and never argue about personal matters of others.

During 90’s board certificates were put on sale for obvious reasons or due to turmoil that erupted in 1989 which proved a gold mine for some people that included some top rung and lower rung officers/ officials to change their date of birth in the service records as per their sweet will, as accountability in the state run offices was almost missing. Yes it is a fact that there are people in the state run offices that include top rung and lower rung officials who should have attained age of superannuation some 10 years back but are still enjoying the service by occupying the chairs fraudulently.

It is a fact that Govt is committed to eradicate the corruption from the offices at all levels but it has become inevitable for the Govt to verify their date of birth as recorded in the service records, which should corroborate with the original board records to know about the number of employees who have managed to change their date of birth by reconstructing the new service books on one reason or the other during the turmoil.  We have some top rung officers who have indulged in changing their DOB  simply to retain the power and earn more. Let Govt check DOB and qualification certificates of employees who have completed 50 years age as on date irrespective of status and position. Everything will surface provided the agencies are empowered to make verification of all employees who have reached the age of 50 years as on date. I am sure that the date of birth scandal and the fake certificate scandal will supersede the much hyped infamous BOPEE scandal in which its Chairman was the kingpin of the CET scam.

The Govt must go ahead with the verification of qualification certificates obtained fraudulently from fake and black listed universities and DOB certificates by reference to basic school admission records and board admission records.
