Iran Denounces False Propaganda, Says Country Model of Islamic Unity

NEW DELHI: Iranian authorities in India have rejected as fabricated and mischievous news report about demolition of a mosque in capital Tehran.

“We would like to bring in the notice of all the Muslims in India that unfortunately during last few weeks an unfounded and false news regarding the demolition of a Sunni Muslim Masjid (mosque) in Tehran is being circulated by the extremist militant Wahabbi Takfiri outfits in the press and websites with the malicious aim to tarnish the image of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Culture House of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi said in a statement today.

“All those who have visited Iran are fully aware that there are more than eleven thousand Masajid (mosques) which exclusively belong to Sunni Muslims in Iran.

Muslims belonging to Sunni community are 7% of Iranian population”, the statement said.

“There are seventy thousand Masajid belonging to the Shia Muslims in Iran and as per their population ratio there is one mosque for 4500 Shia Muslims. But as per statistics every 500 Sunni Muslims in Iran possess one Masjid. This means Sunni Masajid in Iran are nine times more than the Masajid belonging to Shia Muslims in the country”, the statement added.

The statement further said that Sunni Muslims perform their daily Namaz (prayers) and Friday congregational prayers in eleven mosques in Tehran city and its suburbs.

“At present the number of Sunni Muslim Deeni Madaris (Islamic seminaries) in Iran have surpassed one thousand and the Sunni Ulama of Iran attain the highest degrees of Islamic Sciences in these seminaries spread throughout Iran”.

“For the kind information of the Muslims in India more than 80 per cent of the Sunni Masajid and Deeni Madaris in Iran were built during last 35 years after the victory of the Islamic revolution”, it said.

Most of the Sunni Masajid, Deeni Madaris and Sunni Muslim members of Iranian Parliament belong to Baluchistan, Kurdistan, Golestan and Hormuzgan provinces where majority of them live. The Sunni Muslims from the Sunni populated provinces of Iran elect their leading and prominent Ulama to the Majlis Khubregan (Assembly of Experts). This assembly monitors the activities of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and as per the Constitution is authorized to elect a new Supreme Leader in the event of necessity.

Supreme leader Sayyid Ali Khamenei has appointed his special representatives for the Sunni populated provinces of Iran  to supervise the affairs of the community in these regions and special grants and facilities are granted to them.

“The love, affection, unity and brotherhood which is prevailing between the Sunni and Shia Muslims in Iran is a unique example in the Islamic world. But the extremist elements are bent upon creating rift and differences among the Muslims in the world by spreading false propaganda,” the statement read.

Referring to the events in the region, the Iranian statement said:  “During last four months more than fifteen Masajid in Yemen have been devastated completely in the air raids and in Bahrain more than twenty historical Masajid have been razed to the ground. The extremist militant Takfiri outfits like ISIS and others have destroyed hundreds of Masajid and mausoleums (Dargahs) of the companions of the holy Prophet (Pbuh) and saints of Islam in various countries”.

The statement rued that Zionist controlled press and media supporting the terrorist Takfiri outfits never highlight these violent and anti-Islamic acts.
