Anantnag bans constructions along river banks

SRINAGAR: The District Magistrate (DM), Anantnag has banned all constructions within 100 metres radius on the banks of streams, nallahs and rivers in the district.

The move has been necessitated due to frequent floods in these streams causing loss to life and property and also consequent to the directions of the High Court in the matter.

“In order to implement the orders passed by the High Court and also save life and property of the general public, it has become imperative to impose blanket ban on construction of any kind of structure within a radius of 100 meters from banks of river nallah Brengi, Sundran and Aripath in district Anantnag”, says an order issued by the District Magistrate.

“No structure shall be allowed to be constructed within a radius of 100 meters on the bank of above mentioned rivers. Irrigation and Flood Control Department shall ensure compliance of this order in letter and spirit”, reads the order.
