Srinagar: All the government educational institutions across the state remained shut on Thursday owing to the strike call given by Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum against the government move to conduct screening test for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers who have obtained their degree certificates through Distance Mode.
The JKTF had called for lock-down of all the government educational institution to impress upon the government not to go for screening test of ReT teachers. The government decision according to the Forum is nothing but to tarnish the image the respectable teachers.
Eyewitnesses said that class work in all government run schools in Srinagar and other towns of the Valley remained suspended, while as reports from other two regions including Jammu and Ladakh said that work in almost all the government educational institutions remained suspended there as well. Both the teaching and non-teaching staff remained away from the classes.
Abdul Qayoom Wani while expressing his gratitude to the teachers for making the strike call a success said that teachers community will organize protest on August 7, Friday at their respective district headquarters.
Lashing out at the government for insulting the teachers community Wani said, We appeal the chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to personally intervene in the matter, as without his intervention nothing can be done.
He said that if government will go ahead with the screen test, then all the government employees will hit the roads and will teach a lesson to the government. We will convene a meeting on Friday evening and future course of action will be chalked out there, he said.
