Road Mishap Sparks Protests in Kupwara

Tipper- Car Collision Kills 1 at Bemina

SRINAGAR:Four civilians were injured after the ve-hicle they were travelling in was hit by an army ve-hicle in Kupwara district sparking massive protests.

Reports said that five people were injured, one critically, after an army vehicle of 528 ASC regiment hit the rick-shaw (Magic Tata Mobile) bearing number JK09-138) they were travelling in at Langate Handwara this morn-ing. 

The injured were shifted by locals to the hospital for treatment.

The mishap led to the outbreak of clashes in Langate town. CRPF and police used teargas shells after violent protesters attacked them with stones. Three police men including an officer were injured in the clashes.

While confirming the incident, Tehsildar concerned, Ab-dul Gani Tantary said that an army vehicle collided with an auto rickshaw.

He said that police has registered a case and further in-vestigations have been taken up.

Meanwhile, army’s Srinagar based defence spokesman said that accident at Handwara needs to be seen with correct facts.

“An over speeding Tata Magic tries to overtake a Maruti car at a place where Army convoy and Maruti are cross-ing each other. Tata Magic loses control and hits Maruti”, the defence official said.

After hitting the Maruti,Tata Magic was overtaking and it hit the Army vehicle at the extreme end of the wrong side and toppled, he said.

“Army has lodged an FIR against the speeding Tata Magic”, the official said. 

Aspeeding truck hit a car at Bemina crossing on city by-pass late Tuesday night, resulting in an on the spot death of the car driver and injuries to his co- passenger. 

Eyewitnesses said Alto vehicle collided head on with an incoming tipper at Bypass crossing leading to Hamdania Colony bridge at around 10 P.M Tuesday. The collision was so massive that it dragged the car to several meters resulting in a fire in it.

The deceased had received severe burn injuries result-ing in his death, residents said.

The injured was admitted to nearby JVC hospital. 

Meanwhile eight passengers were injured, when a ve-hicle skidded off the road at Daksum in south Kashmir. The injured, resident of Paddar Kishtwar in Jammu re-gion, were admitted to hospital.

One Jan Mohammad Gojree was injured, when a three wheeler was hit by a truck at Mirgund Pattan in North Kashmir, while a girl Mehnaz Ya-seen was injured after a vehicle hit her at Budubagh, Khanyar, in the down town.
