Searches stepped up in city

Srinagar: A day after spate of grenade attacks by militants, the security in the city was beefed up and the forces conducted extensive searches throughout the day.

Witnesses said that police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) and CRPF had laid the checkpoints across the city and were conducting thorough frisking of vehicles, bikes, scooters and commuters.

The SOG men were seen frisking at multiple places in Lal Chowk, Parimpora, Dalgate, Soura, Zakura and Pantha Chowk areas of the city. Besides, the forces were also seen patrolling the city roads.

“We have laid the nakas across the city. We are monitoring the situation,” a senior SOG officer said.However, no one was reported to be arrested during the searches.
