Wageless R&B daily wagers stage protest

Srinagar: The daily rated workers in Roads and Buildings (R&B) department Thursday staged a protest against the governments ‘rigid stance’ in fulfilling their long pending demands.

Holding banners and placards reading ‘We want justice, release our pending wages, and consider our regularization’ hundreds of the R&B daily wagers assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave to highlight their demands.

The protestors shouted anti government slogans demanding the release of salaries and regularization of jobs.

“Our today’s protest is aimed to highlight our genuine demands. This government despite repeated assurances did not bother even to release our wages which are pending for the past eleven months. Besides, our demand of regularization is yet to be considered so we have decided that we will continue our protest till our all legitimate demands are fulfilled,” Sajjad Ahmad Parray, representing the employees told CNS.

He accused the Chief Engineer R&B of using oppressive tactics to undermine the daily wagers genuine demand. “Eid is approaching and these employees have nothing to celebrate. We appeal the government to release their salaries before the Eid,” the protesters said.
