Srinagar: Senior Hurriyat leader Maulana Abbas Ansari today strongly condemned the use of force against the people who participated in Friday congregation prayers at Grand Mosque Srinagar and the use of tear smoke shells on namazis inside the Masjid.
Asserting that police violated the basic norms of morality by forcibly entering Jamia Masjid and and firing tear gas canisters and assaulting devotees inside the worship place, he said that this action of forces has desecrated the sanctity of the mosque and has caused great distress and suffering for the people there. Mailana Abbas has endorsed the call to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow to protest the action.
Terming the police action direct interference in the religious affairs of Muslims, Maulana Abbas said that such actions cannot be tolerated by Muslims as such acts of violation of the sanctity are highly provocative for the Muslims and cautioned the administration to desist from such actions in future.
