Yoga Day Protest Costly for KU Students, Many Held

SRINAGAR: A day after night protests rocked Kashmir University against the observance of ‘Yoga Day’ by BJP, police arrested number of University students during nocturnal raids, reports said on Tuesday.

According to a CNS report police on the directions of University authorities have started taking action against those students who allegedly played a key role in foiling the attempts of varsity authorities to observe Yoga day in the campus.

Reports said that several students were taken into custody during nocturnal raids on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

University sources informed that a scholar from English Department Muzamil Farooq Dar of Gandibagh Kakapora Pulwama was arrested in a late night raid by police near University gate and was shifted to unknown destination.

Reports said that a delegation of students while criticizing the police action against the students urged upon the Vice Chancellor to ensure the safety and release of the arrested students. “We encircled VC University when he was coming out from the University mosque. We brought the issue into his notice and if police continues to arrest students, we will certainly launch an agitation in the campus,” said a group of students.

Despite repeated attempts, no official from University was ready to talk over this issue. (CNS)
