Srinagar: A senior journalist and his wife were assaulted on Monday by policemen escorting the cavalcade of Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Hanjura.

The journalist was travelling in his car with his wife in the Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar when the personnel thrashed and hurled abuses at them.

Journalist Javed Malik said he was travelling in his car with his spouse when the personnel thrashed and hurled abuses at him.

Despite proving his identity, Malik said the men punched him and misbehaved with his wife. He alleged that the PDP minister signaled the guards to thrash him.

“They (guards) were so rude. They kept on beating me despite my wife pleading before them,” Malik said. He said he was taken to police station and alleged that the PDP minister told SHO to book him. “He called me a drunkard,” the scribe said.

Despite repeated attempts, the PDP minister could not be contacted for his comments.
