Ex-RAW Chief Says Police Should Unravel Mystery ; Asks Geelani to break silence if he knows truth
SRINAGAR: Former chief of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) A S Dulat Friday asserted that the Chief Minster Mufti Mohammad Syeed led coalition in the state was uncertain about mysterious killings in Sopore and suggested Mufti to hold police answerable over the killing spree.
He also said if Syeed Ali Shah Geelani claims that he knows who is behind the Sopore killings then what stops him to break the silence.
Mufti government is uncertain what is happening in Sopore. If Chief Minister of the state has said that the time bound investigation should be done then he should ask DGP to explain who could be behind the killings, Dulat said in an interview with local news gathering agency The KNS.
Dulat, considered a keen Kashmir observer, said whatever is happening in Kashmir is not good and is also not good for the morale of security forces. Somebody is saying it is because of the rise in infiltration, some say militants are coming from Pakistan and are behind this. But I can say that it is a confusing kind of scenario which is not at all good for the morale of the security forces, he said.
The former RAW chief said that if police claimed that militant outfit Hizb-ul-Muajhideen is behind the killings then they should come clear on it. JK police has said that Hizb is behind the mysterious killings. We cannot challenge them but they should come clear on it and should not jump to conclusion, he said.
Dulat asked Hurriyat (G) chairman Syeed Ali Geelani to break silence if he knows the truth about the Sopore killings. I have heard that Geelani Sahab has said that he knows who is behind the Sopore killings. If he knows then he should name the culprit. What stops him to break the silence?, he questioned.
Dulat, who was key Kashmir advisor to former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, however said: I think that the game has gone out of his hands.
Commenting on the revocation of AFSPA, Dulat said that Mufti should take the issue with Central government. Omar Abdullah was serious for revocation of AFSPA and pressed hard for it. There was time when then Union Home Minister P Chidambarm supported him but it did not happen. I am sure that Mufti Sahab would also like to provide some healing touch to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
