Clashes erupt in Nowhatta

Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Nowhatta area after police removed Pakistan flags twice hoisted in the area, official sources said on Wednesday.

They said that unknown persons had hoisted a Pakistan flag atop newly constructed washrooms in the compound of Jamia Masjid.

“However, police officials spotted it at around 2:30 PM and removed it,” they said, adding that the police action angered youths and they pelted stones on them.

As the situation returned normal after an hour, another Pakistan flag was hoisted at the same place by unidentified youth. The police officials, once again, removed the flag at around 5:30 pm, sources said.

The youths again took to streets and pelted stones on the police ensuing clashes which continued till late evening, they added.
