Speaking at an officer’s meeting after extensive tour of Nigeen lake, the Minister said the Government would relocate and rehabilitate some families from in and around the lake to expand its area upto Saderbal.  He said the matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The Minister said some other encroachments which have come up over a period of time around the lake would be removed to restore the glory of this heritage lake. He said the encroachments are choking the lake and posing a serious threat especially during the floods.

He lauded the efforts of the local NGOs and civil society groups for the conservation and beautification of the lake.
