SRINAGAR: Expressing concern over attempts of polarization being made by communal forces in the state, the Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) Wednesday warned of dire consequences if harassing of Muslims in the Jammu region was not stopped by the government.
A spokesperson in a statement said the KCSDS held a meeting that was chaired by Prof. Hameedah Nayeem in which members observed with deep concern that during past 100 days, the coalition government has dislodged Muslim officers from their postings in the district administration.
The spokesperson said the members observed that eviction of Muslims from forest land was part of the sinister design of the communal forces within the government.
It is also a fact that the posh colonies of Jammu including Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar also belong to the same category of land. This shows that the communal forces are hell-bent on repeating 1947 when under a deliberate communal plan, Muslims were wiped out of Jammu district through a genocidal operation, the statement quoted KCSDS members as having said.
The anti-encroachment drive and reported demolition of Kothas in some Muslim- dominated areas of Jammu including Kalakote, Shidhra, Bathandi have evoked sharp criticism from different quarters in the state.
The KCSDS warned of dire consequences if the selected evictions of Muslims are not stopped forthwith. It is highly discriminatory, arbitrary and unjust move to compel a particular community to leave the Jammu district and facilitate one communitys supremacy in all matters, they said.
KCSDS also demanded a white paper by the government on all developmental allocations and projects implementation in the state.
