Guwahati : A two-and-a-half-month old infant was poisoned and buried by her parents, falling victim to superstitious beliefs, at Mushalpur in Baksa district of Assam.
Local reports said here that the couple, Dipak and Mona Mizar, had poisoned their infant on advise of a fortune-teller, who reportedly told them that great tragedy will befall the family if the child is allowed to live since two teeth of the infant had come out when she was just 11 days old.
The couple reportedly killed the infant on May 31 and buried the body near their house.
Villagers, who knew of the prophesy, grew suspicious and corned the couple regarding whereabouts of the infant, leading to a confession by the couple.
Police yesterday dug out the body of the infant and the couple has been taken into custody.
