Srinagar: The Regional Passport Officer Srinagar has given June 5 at 10:15 am as appointment date to the Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani for completion of the required formulates with regard to his travel documents for which he had earlier submitted his online application form.
In a statement issued to the press, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said Geelani along with his family members had submitted application forms in the passport office Srinagar in May for the want of travel documents and application fee in this regard was also paid on 21 May.
His other family members also went to the passport office for the necessary formulates but due to his house detention, Geelani Sahab is unable to visit there and have not completed the remaining formulates with regarding to the travel documents, he said.
Akbar recalled the statement of the police in this regard that they would allow Geelani to visit the passport office with a condition that he will not be set free from the house arrest process and he will be under the custody of the police along all this process but Hurriyat out rightly rejected this offer and informed the government in clear words that Geelani will not follow the police dictation and he will not visit anywhere in the police custody.
While criticizing the statements of some Indian leaders and Omer Abdullah, spokesman rejected this view that Geelani actually doesnt want to go to the passport office and he has no interest in passport. The spokesman said that it is just a hypothesis and it has nothing to do with the reality. There can be differences in many issues with Geelani but his enemies too agree that he is an honest and straight forward person and he doesnt believe in any type of devious politics.
The spokesman said that the passport officer has although fixed 10:15 am time on 5 June for the appointment of Geelani and if he is set free even five minutes before this time, he will definitely visit the passport office and will complete the remaining formalities with regarding to his travel documents.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that travelling on the Indian passport is a compulsion of every Kashmiri and without this compulsion; the Muslims of this oppressed nation will not even be able to perform their important religious obligation of Hajj. Geelani Sahab too is compelled to complete formalities in this regard and it doesnt provide any justification to the forced occupation of India in Kashmir, he added.
