Landslides hit Zo-jila traffic

Sonamarg:  The Srinagar-Leh Highway was once again closed following fresh landslides at Panimatha near Zojila pass on Saturday.

Official sources said that the fresh landslide was triggered by a rainfall. With the result, no vehicle was allowed to move from Sonamarg to Leh. Similarly, many Kashmir-bound vehicles have remained stranded on other side of the Pass.

“To restore traffic on the highway, traffic department said Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has already been pressed into restoration service,” the official said.

Though the highway is open for both ways but only one-way traffic is allowed at Zojila where the road is still very narrow because of huge walls of snow on both sides.
