Kupwara Imports Rs 1200 Cr Worth Mutton Annually

KUPWARA, MAY 28: In order to promote the sheep rearing as an industry and overcome the unemployment problem in the district, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Kupwara in collaboration with the District Administration organized Sheep Breeder’s Conference here today.

District Development Commissioner, Kupwara presided over the conference while officers, experts, sheepbreeders, progressive farmers associated with the department, besides representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) were present in the Conference.

The District Development Commissioner while speaking on the occasion impressed upon the sheep breeders, educated unemployed youth of the district to come forward for promotion of sheep sector as an industry and establish their own income generating units for their bright future. He also impressed upon the participants for using their own resources as the district is consuming Rs.1200 crores for importing the mutton from other states yearly. To meet out the requirements the youth were asked to come forward for self reliance.
