After Passing Exams, Girl Dies in Cylinder Blast


SRINAGAR A girl was killed and three others received burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast at Shampora in Qazgund on Tuesday, the day she passed matriculation examinations with first division.  

Official sources said that the girl, Asifa Nazir, was preparing a special dish for family to celebrate her success in the examination when the accident occurred. Due to leakage of gas, the house caught fire and instantly other four gas cylinders in the kitchen exploded with loud explosions destroying the house.

Asifa died on the spot.

As the house is located on the roadside, reports said, three passersby, including a cart puller were also injured in the blast.   

While confirming the incident, Station House Officer Police Station Qazigund, Parvaiz Ahmad said that Asifa Nazir died and three others received injuries. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.

The official identified the injured as Abdul Majid Malik (47) son of Ghulam Mohammad of Batpora Srinagar, Mohammad Latif Mir (32) son of Abdul Ahad Mir of Nowgund Qazigund and Mushtaq Ahmad Rather (30) son of Ghulam Mohidin of Panzath.

hailing from far-flung area, Asifa under roll number (1149235) had scored 327 marks out of 500 and according to her relatives, she was over the moon and her joy knew no bounds ever since she heard of her grand success. Soon after the incident, a pall of gloom descended the village. (GNS)
