Dalgate protests hike in tariff, frequent power cuts

Srinagar, May 18: (GNS) People of Dalgate area of Srinagar city Monday staged strong protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) for hike power tariff.

Reports reaching GNS said that scores of people including men and women from Dalgate area assembled at Badyari main Chowk and raised anti-PDD protests for frequent power cuts and hike in power tariff.

The protesters blocked main road, leading to massive traffic jams in the area.

“We have not even compensated for damages caused by last year’s floods; on the other hand the tariff has been hiked from Rs 550 to Rs 750,” one of the protesting woman Shameema told GNS.

The protesters lashed out at the power department, saying how the PDD increases tariff “if there are continuous power cuts.”

The protesters threatened to intensify their agitation if the order for increase in tariff was not revoked at an earliest. (GNS)
