Srinagar: Scores of illegal structures around water bodies in Ashai Bagh and Foreshore Road Srinagar were demolished by Lakes and Water Development Authority on Wednesday.

A team of LAWDA arrived at Ashai Bagh with bulldozers and started demolishing illegal structures. “All but 10 illegally constructed workshops were razed,” Secretary LAWDA Shabir Ahmed said. The demolition was carried in the presence of SDM East Syed Hanif Balkhi and police.

Reports said that some locals particularly females on this occasion tried to create hindrance but could not do much in presence of large contingents of police. The demolition team also dismantled scores of sheds that according to LAWDA had come up illegally along the banks of Dal Lake at Foreshore Road.

“We inform all those people who have resorted to illegal constructions along water bodies to dismantle them within ten days. If they fail to do so, LAWDA will raze them to ground,” Secretary LAWDA said adding that the measures are being taken to restore the pristine glory of the water body.
