Srinagar: A government employee was shot dead by unidentifed gunmen in Srinagar on Monday.
A police official said that Abdul Ahad Dar son of Abdul Gafar Dar, a resident of Astan Mohalla Hazratbal received a bullet in his head when gunmen fired upon him at point blank range in Zakoora locality.
Dar was shifted to SKIMS where he succumbed to his injuries, the official said adding a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
The slain was a government employee in Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital Rainawari Srinagar.
A police officer said that probably militants could be behind the incident but other angles cant be ruled out.
In reply to a question, he said: So far, it has not been established whether the deceased was associated with any political party or not,. He added that the police was also investigating whether the killing is a result of personal rivalry.
The deceased is survived by his wife, daughter and a son, he said.
