Man forced to take poison

Poonch: A man was killed after he was allegedly abducted and forced to consume poisonous substance in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district.

Sources said that 54 year old Muhammad Rafiq of Dargolon village was ‘abducted’ by some unknown people from his house and taken to nearby bushes where he was tied with a tree. “The man was later forced to consume poison leaving him unconscious,” they said.

As the man wasn’t found in his house, his family members staged a protest and blocked road leading to Mendhar from Poonch. The police, in the meantime, found the man in unconscious situation and was rushed to local hospital.

A senior police officer Pritpal Singh said that the man  at the hospital blamed Waseem Ahmad for his abduction and subsequent poisoning. “But,” the officer added, “He (Rafiq) was not fit to give statement.”

Rafiq was later shifted to Rajouri Hospital where he succumbed. Police have registered a case under 174 CRPC and started investigations.

Meanwhile, a Sub-Inspector of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) identified as Muhammad Aslam of 183 Battalion was injured when he was hit by a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was identified Ghulam Haider and he too sustained injuries.

The officer has sustained serious injuries and is being currently undergoing treatment. “He is posted in Pulwama district of Kashmir and was on leave,” an official said.
