SRINAGAR: The J&K Police has deployed its men and officers for patrolling on the river Jehlum banks in the jurisdiction of Police Stations Pantha Chowk, R.M Bagh, Rajbagh, Kothibagh, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal and Parimpora.
These policemen kept vigil on the water levels and were deputed to take measures in case of any breach in their respective jurisdictions.
A police spokesperson said that evacuation plans for the Srinagar are already in place. The tubes, ropes, trucks and other necessary equipments have been provided to the Police Stations for effective evacuations in case of any exigency.
According to SSP Srinagar boats have been placed at the disposal of the Police Stations of the west and south zones. Besides, motorboats have been loaded. He said that in collaboration with residents sand bags have been placed at the possible breaches at Kursoo Rajbagh, Pandrethan, Shivpora, Gundbal, Nowgam, Hamdania Colony Bemina.
He said that the pumps available with the police have been put to work for dewatering. Police is providing all possible help to all other departments. Meanwhile the Special Control Room which was established in PCR Srinagar to help people in situations arising due to bad weather has received around 30,000 calls and WhatsApp messages.
This special Control Room received 20,546 calls on Phone Nos 0194-2452138, 0194-2474040 and 0194-2450946. On WhatsApp number. 9858222333, 9454 WhatsApp messages and pictures were received.
A team of officers has been dedicated to man this helpline which provides information to the callers and also receives calls meant for getting help.
