SRINAGAR: Reacting to the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs assertions that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed wants the discourse to be about anything but his alliance with BJP, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday said National Conference which has been rejected by the people cant live without power.
PDP Chief Spokesperson and Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar said 2010 uprising was creation of Omars inefficiency and callous attitude. His government killed innocent people. He demonised the whole system and changed the discourse. He demeaned Kashmiris by terming them drug addicts, anti-nationals and stone pelters.
We want to remove that tag. We want to restore the dignity and honor of the Kashmiris and we will do that irrespective of what he says. We are not running our policies for his (Omars) convenience or comfort, he said.
Reminding Omar that his hands were soaked with the blood of innocents, Akhtar said, He (Omar) should face the trail for killing 120 boys.
He (Omar) has already caused an immense damage to the state. He could have done a big favour to the state if would have done constructive opposition. This is beyond anybodys imagination why he should oppose something that has been done which should have been done long back, he added.
In a tweet Omar said that fake tiffs between PDP-BJP was nothing but a drama. These are fixed-matches between them (PDP-BJP) to divert attention from flood rehab and hollow CMP, he said. And if you cant trust a CM to decide what is right then its better to dispense with state governments & govern from Delhi directly.
However, Akhtar asserted that policy of PDP to provide healing touch to people of Jammu and Kashmir is not new. When Mufti sahib became Chief Minister in 2002 we started this process of healing touch policy which was even appreciated by then Prime Minister (Atal Behari) Vajpayee. When (Ghulam Nabi) Azad became CM, (Congress president) Sonia Gandhi asked him to continue with healing touch policy. But unfortunately both Azad and Omar Abdullah reversed that policy and they again converted Kashmir into a prison, the PDP spokesperson said.
Militancy was also the outcome of the rigging of 1987 elections by the NC and Congress. They again want to take Kashmir back but Mufti sahib wont allow that to happen, he asserted.
On alliance partner BJPs concern over the unilateral decision of Chief Minister to release separatist leader Masarat Alam on Saturday, he said, For restoring honor and dignity of people of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of belief and article of faith for PDP. If they (Kashmiris) are part of democracy they must get the dividends of it.
It is not fit in any part of the country to keep any person in jail without any trial or charge. Why are double standards being applied? We will not keep any prisoners unless there are any sufficient reasons to keep them in jail, Akhtar asserted. People have reposed their faith in democracy and they must get a divined for that. There honour, dignity and their rights have to be restored.
We want to restore the dignity and honor of the Kashmiris and we will do that irrespective of what he (Omar) says. We are not running our policies for his convenience or comfort.
