SRINAGAR: Religious organization International Khatm-i-Nabuwat Movement (IKNM) Monday questioned the role of the court with regard to the acquittal of rape accused faith-healer Gulzar Bhat alias Gulzar Pir.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, president IKNM, Molvi Muhmmad Amin, while expressing shock and irony over the court verdict said that despite producing all the proofs against the rapist Gulzar by police, the court ordered the release of Gulzar that speaks volumes about the functioning of the local court in Budgam. We appreciate the role of police. Police did a lot of hard work in collecting all the evidences against the rapist fake faith-healer, but the court did something that shocked the whole Valley, he said adding, that IKNM demands that the role of the court should be probed so that people will come to know what has happened behind the curtains.
He said all over India, rapists are awarded stringent punishment but only in Kashmir, such rapists are released with honour. He said fake-godman Aasa Ram is still languishing in jail while others have been awarded stringent punishment for committing rape on innocent women. We question the role of the court and want to ask it why it didnt give weightage to those statements that were recorded by the rape victims. We question the verdict as it came at a time when new DC and SP had assumed charge in the district, who barely knew about the case, he said.
Appealing police to challenge the court verdict in High Court, president IKNM president Molvi Muhammad Amin said demanded that the close confidants of the Gulzar Bhat should also be booked for helping him to exploit the innocent students. We fail to understand why some of the close confidants of Gulzar Bhat were not arrested and why some of them were released alternately without facing the court proceedings, he questioned.
He said that IKNM is ready to help all those rape victims financially who will challenge the verdict in High Court.
Meanwhile, Muthida Ulmae Ahil Sunat Wal Jamat General Secretary Abdul Qayoom Qasmi has demanded death sentence to Gulzar Bhat. He said that by releasing such licentious persons will increase immorality in society.
Grand Mufti, Bashir-u-Din said that police should challenge the court verdict so that guilty could not escape from the clutches of law.
A fast track court should be constituted in this regard and the accused should be punished severely, he said.
President Doctors Association Kashmir, Dr Nisar-ul-Hasan said that free movement of persons like Gulzar Pir will surely increase immorality in the society. While demanding stringent punishment for Gulzar, he said that court verdict is unacceptable to the people of Kashmir as everyone here believes that the verdict was pronounced in a haste to pave the release for the rapist.
