Srinagar police busts gang of car lifters

Srinagar Police Saturday busted a gang of car lifters and recovered 15 stolen vehicles including motorcycles from their possession in Srinagar city.

A top police official said that acting on a tip-off, a police team headed by the SDPO Maharaj Ganj police station Ajaz Ahmed raided different places and arrested two persons last evening. The police official identified the arrested lifters as Asif Wani son of Sultan Wani resident of Gurez Bandipora presently residing at Namchabal Fathekadal and Basit Ahmed Bhat son of Muhammad Abdullah resident of Pohuru Sarnal Anantang presently residing at Badshah Nagar Natipora.

“These car lifters had stolen 15 cars and bikes from the jurisdiction of MRG, Rainawari, Safakadal and Khanyar police stations. On their disclosure the stolen vehicles have been recovered with the strenuous efforts of the special team,” the official said adding that  investigation of the case is going on and more recoveries and arrests are expected.
