SRINAGAR: The father of slain teenager Wamiq Farooq on Saturday said that he is hopeful that new government in the state would bring killers of his son to justice.
Hailing from Rainawari area, 17 year old Wamiq Farooq was killed on January 31 in 2010 after police fired a teargas shell directly on his head near Ghani Memorial Stadium, Rajouri Kadal.
Farooq Ahmad, who is a street vendor, said that he will continue his fight till the killers of his son are punished. It has been long time. My son was killed in 2010 but so far no one has been punished or arrested. The previous government did nothing in this regard but I am hopeful that there would be progress in the case of my son after new government takes over, he said.
My son was not pelting stones when police killed him. He was playing and soon after hearing Azaan, he was walking towards mosque to offer Asr prayers, he said, adding: but police targeted him without any provocation and this has also been stated by residents that he wasnt pelting stones.
When asked why he hopes from new government, he said: It is the primary responsibility of government to ensure justice, I wont stop till perpetrators arent brought to justice,” he added.
He claimed that the National Conference led coalition government lost assembly polls because it spilled the blood of innocents. You witnessed what happened to their chair and it is because of martyrs blood, he said.
Farooq said he wants killers of all the teenagers killed in 2010 to be punished. Like my son, I want justice for all those 120 plus youth killed in 2010. They are like my sons and I have same feeling for them as well, he said.
He said that on Sunday a seminar and Fateha Khwani will be held at Martyrs Graveyard Eidgah. (GNS)
