SRINAGAR: A Srinagar youth who has been dubbed by Western media as Islamic Rage Boy was released by authorities on Monday from Maharaj Gunj Police Station.
Shakeel Ahmed Bhat resident of Malik Angan Fathe Kadal Srinagar was released after court quashed his 18th PSA that was slapped on him shortly before the Assembly Elections in Kashmir.
Shakeel was arrested on October 27 in 2014 and soon after booked by authorities under Public Safety Act. He was shifted to Udhampur Jail on November 3 last year. The High Court Jammu quashed his PSA on January 7 after that he was rearrested and shifted to CIK Jammu. A police official said that Shakeel was handed over to Maharaj Ganj Police station officials wherefrom he was released in presence of his family members.
Talking to CNS, Shakeel Ahmed Bhat said that he is happy to see his family members and friends in free environment. I was languishing in jail from past six years. I was arrested in 2008 on the charges of organizing anti-India protests while authorities had slapped 17 PSAs on me, he said adding that would continue to work for the Kashmir Cause peacefully.
Welcoming the release of the Shakeel Ahmed, Democratic Political Movement General Secretary Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi who accompanied him from MRG police station to his house said that Shakeel Ahmed is a true son of the soil whose heart is filled with love for his sacred land. (CNS)
