. Caricatures of Prophet Offensive, Insulting to Islam
SRINAGAR: Justifying the attack on French satirical journal Charlie Hebdo, Kashmir Grand Mufti Bashiruddin Ahmad Saturday said it was obvious and natural to get provoked and instigated if enemies of Islam insult the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) and draw his caricatures.
In a statement, Grand Mufti said that few Muslims avenged the insult to Prophet (Pbuh) and put 12 people to death in France. Instead of learning a bitter lesson from the attack, the French Government continues to encourage the cartoonists of the journal who have now again started to draw the caricatures of Prophet of Islam to offend the sentiments of the Muslims, Mufti said adding that the French Government should apologize and stop insulting religious figures.
Mufti Bashir said that, “These disgraceful actions are in the interest of nobody and will only fuel hatred and anger.
The Grand Mufti said that the image has angered Muslims all over the world as depictions of Prophet are forbidden in Islam. Every Muslim is not a terrorist. Islam has shown light to the humanity while the character of Prophet is the motivating force for the billions of people all around. To insult the Prophet will not only widen the gap between Muslims and other communities in the West but it will create trust deficit and will decimate the world, Mufti Bashiruddin said and appealed Muslims to maintain calm and brotherhood at any cost.
