SRINAGAR: A six year old girl was badly mauled by a pack of stray dogs along with at least six other persons in Diyarwani Batmaloo area of Srinagar city on Saturday.
Onlookers watched in horror as little girl Madhiha Ayaz was tossed around like a rag doll by rabid animals.
Eyewitnesses said that a pack of dogs pounced upon Madhiha Ayaz (6) when she was on way to Maktab Saturday afternoon. The dogs mauled her face, leg, groin and arm and according to family sources, no vaccine was available at SMHS hospital for her treatment. I shifted my poor daughter to SKIMS and to my surprise, there too no rabies vaccine was available, said Ayaz Ahmed.
Reports said that soon after the incident the pack of dogs in the same area attacked at least five persons including an elderly man who were also shifted to hospital. The locals identified them as Abdul Salam Hakim (60), Ali Muhammad Dar (40), Abdul Manan (18), Nisar Ahmed (20) and Tasleema Bano (32).
Residents and shopkeepers staged an angry protest against Srinagar Municipality and alleged that authorizes were more interested in animal rights than public welfare. There are at least six dogs particularly a black dog that attack people especially children. If SMC fails to take tackle them then we will kill them one by one ourselves, a resident of Diyarwani said.
As usual Commissioner SMC, Dr Qasba was busy in an important meeting and did not respond to repeated phone calls. (CNS)
