KUPWARA: A minor lost his life after officials of a health centre in Lolab, Kupwara allegedly denied ambulance service for ferrying him to a Srinagar hospital.
The incident sparked off violent protests by the relatives of the boy who blamed doctors for their sons death.
According to GNS, the relatives of three-year-old Afan Ahmad alleged that doctors at Public Health Centre Lalpora in Lolab asked them to refer him to GB Panth Hospital but denied ambulance service.
The doctors referred him to Children hospital Srinagar but did not provide us the ambulance to ferry him. The delay led to the death of my son, said Nisar Ahmad Bhat, his father.
The angry relatives broke the window panes of the ambulance parked there and raised slogans against hospital management. The doctors are fully responsible for the death of minor boy and should be dealt under law. Despite availability of ambulance at the health center, they asked us to arrange a private vehicle, said Firdous Ahmad, a relative.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Muneer Ahmad Khawaja however denied the allegation and said: The minor child was suffering from heart disease and doctors at health center referred him to Srinagar hospital for treatment but the relatives insisted for ambulance, whose driver was on leave due to night-off.(GNS)
