Jammu: CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA elect Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan here today.
Besides discussing various other socio-economic issues pertaining to the state, Tarigami invited attention of the Governor about the delay in completion of 4-lanning Srinagar-Jammu National Highway especially from Banihal upto the summer capital Srinagar.
Tarigami urged the Governor to direct the concerned authorities to expedite the land acquisition and remove other hiccups in order to complete the project without any further delay. The MLA elect observed that the inordinate delay in completion of this project is proving detrimental to the economic interests of the state.
The MLA elect from Kulgam also apprised the Governor about devastation caused in September floods by River Jhelums major and turbulent tributary Veshu that had washed away villages and cultivated lands in south Kashmir particularly in Kulgam district.
In this connection, Tarigami urged the Governor to depute a team of experts comprising of engineers, hydrologists, ecologists and other specialists with the experience necessary to tackle flooding for an in-depth study of this tributary in order to prevent any major floods in future.
Tarigami also sought Governors attention towards water management techniques that could be imparted in the habitations around this tributary in Kulgam and its vicinity in order to prevent the effect of flooding on villages, towns and over surrounding land, seen recently in September.
