Srinagar: The president of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Tuesday termed the depiction of the caricature of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on cover page of France-based Charlie Hebdo magazine as outrageous and provocative and demanded ban on the publication.
In a statement, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, said: Ridiculing and insulting the holiest figure in Islam is intolerable and unacceptable to Muslims. The repetition of this abominable act by magazine is willful disrespect to Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and has enraged Muslims across the world.
He said the portrayal of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the vilest of sins and is a serious religious offence.
The Magazine, which was recently attacked by two Al Qaeda inspired Jihadists in which 12 people including ten journalists were killed, has committed similar evil act in 2011 and by repeating the sinful act of blasphemy has hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims, he said.
States have the responsibility to ensure full respect of all religions and freedom of expression does not in any way justify disregard to religion, the DAK president said.
He said the media has to be responsible and respectful to religious beliefs.
He condemned the French government and said allowing depiction of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is pouring oil on the fire and will have dangerous consequences.
France should stop anti Islam and anti Muslim propaganda and immediately put a ban on the publication of magazine in the interest of world peace, he demanded.
