Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday lashed out at the outgoing chief minister and National Conference leader, Omar Abdullah, for trying to subvert the efforts of PDP in carrying forward the peace and reconciliation initiatives that were started in 2003.
Party chief spokesperson, Nayeem Akhtar said, After having failed to provide any relief to the people in his six years of near chaotic rule, Omar Abdullah is now trying to subvert any chances of movement in taking forward the peace and reconciliation initiatives that were started in 2003 and frozen under the NC-led coalitions tenure.
He was responding to the outgoing Chief Ministers tweet from Landon: When I raised AFSPA, I was accused of playing politics with national security. The BJP negotiates government formation with the PDP using AFSPA and that is okay? He said Omar Abdullah nearly celebrated the eruption of violence along the borders with Pakistan and has now taken exception to the PDPs efforts at revocation of AFSPA on which he ran his politics since 2011 to divert attention from his failures, corruption, killings, crime and shady dealings.Whenever he found himself caught on back foot during his tenure as the Chief Minister, whether in Haji Yousfs mysterious death at his residence, Markundal killings, Gool atrocities, Gargrin killings, BOPEE Scam, Cricket Scam, Drug Scam, death of infants at Children Hospital, PHE Scam, land grab scam etc., Omar raised AFSPA revocation issue, Akhtar said.
The PDP Chief Spokesperson said despite having full support of the Centre and his alliance partner- Congress- Omar Abdullah couldnt achieve anything for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Instead he used Congress and the UPAs support to unleash terror on the people and just survive as a chief minister, he added.
Akhtar said the NC working president was heading a coalition without any agenda and Common Minimum Programme. Omar Abdullahs only aim was to become the Chief Minister for the sake of it and he concluded the deal with the Congress in half an hour in December 2008, with just one condition that he will be the Chief Minister for six years, he said and added instead of getting anything substantial for the state he eroded the prestige of the Chief Ministers position and bartered the states interests for power.Akhtar said Omar Abdullah spent all his lifelines and unqualified support only for personal survival as chief minster without any regard for the position he was occupying which came into disrepute, eroding its position and prestige.
He said instead of achieving anything for the state as Chief Minister, his government surrendered the arrangement with the J&K Bank as the banker of last resort which has resulted in fiscal destitution of the state. His mis-governace and corruption has left the state in a shambles with development process almost abandoned and government facing bankruptcy with bills worth thousands of crores pending in the treasuries, the PDP Chief Spokesperson added. He said during their alliance with the NDA in the past, the NC in spite of having brute majority in the assembly couldnt achieve anything for the state and not only surrendered whatever it had but got oppressive measures like POTA, STF and Ikhwan to silence the people.
Whether with the NDA or UPA they always surrendered the interests of Jammu and Kashmir to remain in power, Akhtar said.Compared to that, he said, the PDP has got a modest mandate in a highly fractured verdict and now if we do attempt to gain something for our people through any of our prospective tie-ups, Omar Abdullah is trying to play the spoiler. One would have expected him to have acquired some political grace if not maturity through his long years in politics and power, but, unfortunately, he is not showing any signs of political maturity, the PDP Chief Spokesperson said.
Akhtar said while we respect those people who supported the NC in the elections in spite of the irreparable damage it did to the interests of the state and its residents, but by the NC leaders recent tweets from London, first to express his joy over the border tension and now objecting to the PDPs efforts at negotiating AFSPA and post flood reconstruction, even they must be repenting on their decision for having voted for his party.
