JAMMU: National Conference president Omar Abdullah called on Governor N.N. Vohra on Wednesday afternoon and submitted his resignation as Chief Minister.
The Governor accepted Abdullahs resignation and requested him to continue in office till alternative arrangements are made.
Soon after submitting his resignation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told reporters that PDP and BJP have emerged as the largest parties in the state and it is up to them to form the government. He said that he was leaving for London to enquire about the health of his parents. It is of no use for me to stay in Jammu and Kashmir. I am leaving for London to see my ailing parents, he said.
He added that there is no reason for us to keep anyone in or out of power. As I have been saying since yesterday it is not the duty of National Conference to form the government nor is it duty of NC to help anyone form the government, he said adding that it was the duty of PDP and BJP to form the government and let us see what they will do.
Omar also rejected the reports that any back channel talks were going on between NC and other parties.
