Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation has prosecuted top Food Corporation Of India (FCI) officials for not removing the flood his stock from Srinagar.
In a statement SMC spokesperson Masrat Yosuf said those prosecuted include top FCI officials Abishek Siingh, Executive Director, North zone FCI, Greater Noida, New Delhi, Kishan Kumar, General Manager, Regional Office FCI Trikuta Nagar Jammu and Amit Kaiser, Area Manager, District Srinagar, Baghat Barzulla
They have been prosecuted for not lifting the flood hit stock from FCI gowdown situated at Guru Bazaar Srinagar post floods.
Quoting Chief Sanitation Officer Manzoor Ahmed Tarray, she said, During his visit to ward no 22 of Guru Bazaar area post floods, the FCI gowdown situated at Guru Bazaar which was under water had stocked about five thousand metric tons of food grains/ rice.
This entire flood hit stock which is till date lying in their gowdown has added to the problems of people.
As per the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, a notice has been initially served to the area manager FCI vide the letter NO. SMC/SCO/2242-46 dated 4.10.2014 and in response to the Manager (Legal) FCI District Srinagars letter No DM/PA/DOS/2014/7648 DATED 7.10.14. where in he has sought space from SMC for dumping the unwanted material, SMC in reply has communicated the concerned authorities that a space e for scientific disposal of the entire flood hit stock shall be provided at Municipal landfill site vide letter NO.SMC/225-53 dated 8.10.2014, the PRO added.
The local residents of the area have been complaining regularly as these destroyed/rotten food grains stocked in FCI Gowdowns are emanating bad odor In the entire area and have become a source of nuisance which is posing threat to the human lives in the adjoining vicinity too further, Manzoor Tarray said.
Despite the lapse of more than two months time they have failed to lift the destroyed grains which have now become a serious threat to public health so SMC finally decided to prosecute the offenders in the court of law under the provisions of the Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 regarding sanitation and public health, he added.
An FIR has also been lodged against these offenders in the concerned police station Shaheed Gunj vide letter NO .SMC/SCO/2914-16 dated 11.12.14. said Chief Sanitation Officer.
Commissioner SMC Dr Qasba in this regard said that a legal action has already been initiated against them.
