Hails city youth for saving thousands in floods
SRINAGAR: A day after the Congress president Sonia Gandhi hailed Kashmirs youth for the role they played during the September floods, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Thursday said that Kashmiri youth have created example of courage and selflessness for the entire world.
Addressing public meeting at SK Stadium here Mufti said Srinagar needs more attention and that PDP has plans to develop the summer capital on modern lines.
Taking repeated jibes at the ruling National Conference, the former chief minister said that the Omar Abdullah led government labelled the youth of Srinagar as stone throwers and drug addicts but these youth saved thousands during the worst floods in the Valley. Terming the Srinagar youth an epitome of sacrifices, Mufti said that despite facing severe hardships and tyrannies from NC, the youth here didnt lose hope.
He said that Srinagar is the city of handicrafts, culture and tradition and that PDP will take all measures to restore the Srinagar to its past glory. He said that roads and inner streets are going to be among the priorities of the PDP.
Without naming separatist leaders, Mufti said that he has his own opinion over the resolution of Kashmir issue and separatists have their own. He also maintained that he served as the Union Home Minister and also as the chief minister of J&K but is happy over the trust the people of the state has reposed in him.
He added that the parties who are striving to merge the people with the Indian union are behind fragmenting them into pieces. He also took a dig at the recent statement of the Prime Minister Modi wherein he said that relief amounts shall be transferred directly into victims accounts.
Mufti said that Modi knows little about Kashmir and the divisive politics would not lead Kashmir anywhere. He added that the parties which talk in contrast tones in Srinagar and in Jammu are endangering the democracy here.
Mufti said that need of the hour is to win the hearts of the people of Kashmir and to exploit them any further.
Terming PDP a party for the new beginning, Mufti said that after 2002, the people of the state heaved a sigh of relief from the reign of terror.
Mufti also hailed the PDP workers for working tirelessly for the party, saying that he is politically alive- it is all because of his party workers.
