SRINAGAR: After the end of three phases of polls in Jammu and Kashmir, all eyes are set on the eight assembly segments of the capital Srinagar with the main contest expected between PDP and National Conference.
Srinagar will go to polls on December 14 during the fourth phase of five phased staggered polls.
The security across the city has been beefed up with the government forces guarding the vital link routes and installations. Barricades have been erected with the concertina wires on various streets.
In Downtown areas, police says that it is making all necessary arrangements to foil any attempts of disruption of law and order.
Sources say that the CCTVs are being installed at various sensitive places with the police claiming to crack whip against the stone pelters.
Meanwhile, poll rallies have gained momentum in Srinagar with the PDP and NC addressing people at various places, asking people to vote for peace and prosperity.
Neck to neck fight is expected between the NC and PDP in Srinagar with NC terming it as its bastion and PDP striving to en-cash on the anti-incumbency factor.
Meanwhile, the fourth phase of the JK elections is also important as it has 2 chief ministers in the fray. PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is contesting from South Kashmirs Anantnag while Chief minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from Srinagars Sonawar assembly segment.
There are also three sitting ministers and a LA speaker in the fray at present phase.
NCs Ali Mohammad Sagar is fighting from Khaniyar while as speaker Mubarak Gul is contesting from Srinagr;s Eidgah. Congresss Peerzada Sayeed and Ghulam Ahmad Mir are fighting from South Kashmirs Kokernag and Dooru constituencies respectively.
There are 182 candidates in the fray for the fourth phase of polls being held on 18 assembly segments.
35 candidates are Crorepatis, three candidates are ageing between 71 to 80 years. Nine are reportedly illiterates. Against 12 candidates, reports informed that criminal charges have been registered.
87 candidates claim to possess 10+2 degrees while as 82 claim to be graduates and post graduates.
During the fourth phase, polls will be witnessed in eight segments of Srinagar, 2 of Shopaian, 6 of Anantnag,, 2 of Samba and Vijapur.
