SRINAGAR: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to face an embarrassing moment when a large gathering confronted him outside DC office Srinagar and greeted him with pro-freedom slogans.
Chief Minister was accompanying Nasir Aslam Wani, incumbent MLA from Amira Kadal, who filed his nomination papers from the same assembly segment on Monday.
Eyewitnesses said that as Omar and Wani arrived at DC office, the party supporters raised slogans in his favour, however, as he came out from the DC office after filing nomination papers an elderly lady from Shivpora confronted Chief Minister and did not allow him to board his vehicle. The guards of the CM, however, threw a ring around him and took him to his car.
In the meantime a number of people witnessing the scene shouted pro-freedom slogans Hum kya chahte: Azadi besides anti-NC slogans.
The woman was joined by scores of youth and she came in front of the Omars cavalcade. However, Omar came down from his bullet proof vehicle and tried to persuade woman to calm down assuring her of speedy redressal of her problem.
The woman told him that she has lost everything in the floods and has no shelter.
She told him that all her pleas to his office have not elicited any response claiming three kanals of her land has been grabbed by one of the senior PDP leaders.
Meanwhile, unknown persons hurled stones at Lok Jana Shakti Party candidate and his supporters when he was coming out of Srinagar Municipal Corporation premises after filing his nomination papers. We along with LJP leader Sanjay Saraf were present in SMC premises when unidentified person hurled few stones across the wall from outside, an eyewitness said.
In Darish Kadal area of the city, a group of youth pelted stones on Peoples Democratic Party cavalcade led by party candidate for Eidgah Ali Muhammad Wani.
Police said the incident took place when a fleet of PDP vehicles were on way to SMC office Srinagar where Wani was to file his nomination papers. A police official said that the youth were chased away and nobody was hurt in the incident.
The cavalcade of NCs candidate Shameema Firdous was attacked near Chota Bazar area of Srinagar when she was approaching the office of the SMC to file her nomination papers.
Three persons including a woman was injured when some people hurled stones at Shameemas cavalcade.
In Batamalu area, PDP supporters were attacked near the main bus stand sparking clashes.
In South Kashmirs Shopian area, stone pelting incidents took place at a time when candidates were filing their nomination papers.
Reports informed that a Congress candidate for Wachi assembly segment Moroof Ahmad Wani was attacked with stones in the area after he filed his nomination papers at the Range Office Shopian.
Some party workers were also injured with the party vehicles also getting damaged.
