CS Chairs FAC meeting

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 24- The 86th Forest Advisory Committee meeting was held here today under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey.

The Committee discussed various proposals for allowing use of Forest land coming in the alignment of various roads and other developmental projects.

Underscoring the need to minimize felling of forest trees, Chief Secretary said “Every possible alternative must be explored to reduce the negative ecological impact, involving the least number of trees”.

Calling for carrying out re-plantation/afforestation to compensate the diversion of forest land, Khandey said ‘user agencies have the responsibility to ensure eco-restoration of muck dumping sites’.

He also reiterated that the Forest Department must monitor all developmental projects in each Forest Division to ensure that unintended consequences on environment do not occur.
