BEERU: Chief Minister and NC Working President Omar Abdullah Thursday said that BJP was yet to come to terms with and accept the separate flag of J&K, its identity and the political sentiments of the people of this State.
Omar addressed a public meeting in Beeru after leading a road show with large number of people after filing his nomination papers from there today.
BJP talks about winning the hearts of our people but the fact remains that they have never accepted our flag, our special status, our identity and our political sentiments. First accept our flag and our political sentiments and then talk about winning hearts and minds, Omar said while adding that there were multiple voices emerging from the BJP with different, ambiguous stands on Article 370 and that there was no clarity from BJP about their policy on this very sensitive issue. On one hand certain BJP leaders say that they will not make Article 370 an issue and leave it to the will of the people and on the other hand the Home Minister says that Article 370 is a National Issue.
This is a conscious effort at deliberate contradiction as BJP is trying to have two different stands on various sensitive political issues in two different regions of the State. BJP should know that the people of J&K will not sell their conscience for flood relief packages or money but BJP will have to respect our political aspirations, unique identity and sentiments, the NC Working President said.
Lashing out at PDP, he said, It was none other than PDP that gave a ten years lease extension for the Tosa Maidan firing range and this was just one of the many injustices that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had brazenly perpetrated against the people of this State. We got the artillery range vacated and sanitized due to our efforts and it is my dream that we will see Tosa Maidan developed as a thriving tourism destination where local youth can operate hotels and restaurants and where the adjoining areas of Beerwah, Khan Sahib and Budgam can find new employment opportunities.
There are those who have been rubbed the wrong way due to our success in getting the Toisa Maidan firing range closed and are going around discrediting this very important achievement. The voters of Beerwah and Khan Sahib will reply to them on our behalf in the coming elections, Omar said.
Hitting out at the hypocrisy of the Congress, Omar said that party was busy trying to own up the achievements of the NC led Government while they are deflecting all the failures of their leaders and ministers. If Congress wants to blame NC for the points of criticism in the historic six year term of good governance and transparency, then all the good work done is also solely attributable to us. It is NC that made thousands of kilometers of new roads, built hundreds of new bridges and created the New Administrative Units on the basis of our hard-work, political will and conviction. Congress cannot have the cake and eat it too, Omar Abdullah added.
