Sopore traders allege mismanagement in LPG gas delivery

Srinagar: While alleging mismanagement, the Traders Federation Sopore on Monday alleged that the LPG gas agencies in the town are resorting to black marketing and are violating government norms during sale of the cylinders.

The president of Traders Federation Sopore, Haji Muhammad Ashraf Ganai, said over phone that only two gas dealers are functioning in the town. “We have two gas dealers here. One is Ganjoo gas agency and Bhat gas agency.  If we take example of Bhat Gas agency, they have 25000 gas cylinder connections but they don’t have proper mechanism to distribute among people. Both of these agencies resort to black marketing and sell these cyclinders to hotel owners and for other commercial purposes,” he said.

Ashraf alleged that these gas agencies lack infrastructure and there is no home delivery system. “They have no gas management as well as no proper gas dealing. Out of 25000, the Bhat gas agency only provides 200 to 300 cylinders through home delivery,” he said.

“In absence of lack of Home delivery system, people have to spend extra money,” Ashraf said.

The president of Traders Federation also said that these gas agencies sell gas cylinders against the rate fixed by government.

“The government rate is 417 per one cylinder but they sell at 432 rupees. This is sheer injustice with the common people,” he said. Ashraf said: “basically they enjoy political backing and that is why no one is taking action against them.”

He appealed government to approve new gas agencies in the town as two agencies are not enough for the vast population. (GNS)
