SRINAGAR: At least 14 residential houses were gutted in a devastating fire in North Kashmir on Wednesday.
The fire broke out at Jalandora-Gurez in district Bandipore, about 135 km north of Srinagar city.
However, no loss of life or injury to any person was reported in the inferno that reduced the area to ashes.
“Fourteen residential houses and two cow sheds were damaged in fire that occurred in Gurez last night,” a police spokesman said. ” Fire was brought under control with the help of fire tenders and police.”
Reports said the blaze erupted from one of the houses in the area and spread out to adjoining houses in a shorter time span.
The firemen from region’s Fire and Emergency Services department were pressed into service to douse the flames, officials said.
The cause of the fire was being ascertained.
Officials at Fire and Emergency Services department said chances of fire in the region increase during winters, as households store various types of fuel.
