Govt Leases 210 Kanals of Nazool Land to Missionary Schools Against Peanuts

SRINAGAR: The state authorities have leased more than 210 Kannals of Nazool land to the three missionary schools around the city centre Lal chowk, virtually free of cost.

Replying to an RTI application, the Public Information Officer from the office of Tehsildar Nazool has stated that around 84 Kannals, 11 Marlas and 9 Sfts were leased by the government in favor of   Biscoe and Mallinson School Sheikh Bagh. The government has informed, through the RTI, that the annual rent for against the leased land is ‘Under Consideration’.  “As per the government order no: Rev (NDK) 322 of 1980 dated 12, 09,1980 for a period of 40 years.”

Also for the Burn Hall school, Sonawar, the government has leased 32 Kannals, 08 marlas and 75 Sfts with the annual rent being received rupees 8105.  The state government while replying the RTI application has stated, “As per the government order no: Rev/NDJ 262, dated 30,10, 1978 for a period of 40 years w.e.f 13-5-1977.”

Presentation Convent School, Raj Bagh has been given 95 Kannals, 4 marlas and 57 Sfts of land by the state government against the annual rent of 12 thousand rupees.  The government says that the lease has been granted in the favor of school for the period of 19 years w.e.f 18-3-2009.

The RTI application was filed by the human rights activist Mohammad Ahsan Untoo on October 17, 2014 before the office of the Tehsildar Nazool.  (KNS)
