PAHELI NAR (KANGAN): The catastrophic floods in early September devastated medical infrastructure in Kashmir and crippled health care system leaving tens of thousands of sick and needy in lurch.
Though the medical relief camps set up by volunteer groups provided some succor to people in flooded hit areas, those living in far flung areas of the Valley were left at the mercy their fate.
Kashmir Observer Foundation (KOF) has taken the lead and reached out to areas where medical aid is scarce and needed most.
On Thursday KOF established a day long camp at Paheli Nar, a mountainous village 15 kilometers off Kangan in Ganderbal district.
Medical team comprising of three renowned physicians of the valley, including Dr Nazir Mustaq (MD), Dr Riyaz Tasleem (MD) and Dr Ross Masood Nehvi examined hundreds of patients who thronged the camp.
KOF team was told that the area doesn’t have a primary health centre and no doctor has visited them in decades.
The villagers said they have to trek 15 kilometers to reach the nearest medical facility located in Kangan for any emergency.
Hundreds of men, women and children were given medical counselling and provided with free medicine at the camp.
