New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reprimanded Narendra Modi-led-NDA government, which believes itself to be efficient and hardworking, by saying that it behaved like mythological character ‘Kumbhakarna’ and Rip Van Winkle.
A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and R F Nariman was frowned over the delay in submitting a report despite grant of two months time on the environment and ecological impact of 24 hydro-electric projects on Alaknanda and Bhagirathi river basins in Uttarakhand.
The report should have been here. It is the fault of the Union government. You are behaving like Kumbhakarna, the bench said adding that the court will not lift the stay unless its orders were complied with.
The court had stayed work on these projects awaiting the report.
The Apex Court by its August 12 order had asked the ministry to submit report on the impact that each project would have on the environment of the Gangetic and Alakhnanda river basin.
