Timber smugglers loot Rafiabad forest

Baramulla: Timber smugglers have allegedly chopped off hundreds of trees in Rafiabad area here in north Kashmir.  

Reports said timber smugglers in the compartment number 31 B at Dalri forest Dangiwach, continue to loot green gold while local forest officials are ‘hand-in-glove’ with them.

The locals alleged that that timber smugglers loot wood during night. “They come in vehicles and take away the green gold. Scores of lush green trees have been chopped off,” the locals said. 

They appealed higher authorities to take stern action against the timber smugglers.

The Forester Shareef-ud-Din Malik, when contacted, denied the allegations of loot. He said they had deputed a team to the area but everything is ‘all right’.
